Public hashtag activity observed by this index across participating and monitored servers.
Two views of the tracked set. The first asks whether a tag is a conversation
spread across the network or accounts run in one place; the second shows the shape of each tag's
day. Hover or click a tag in either to pick it out in both.
Conversation or megaphone
Right is many people. Up is many of those people on few servers, which is what a
publisher looks like: it adds accounts without adding servers, while a conversation reaches new
people on new servers and both numbers grow together. The dashed line is
5 authors per server, the same line
promotion applies. Dot size is post volume.
Posts per author is deliberately not the vertical axis, though it reads as the
more obvious choice. It does not hold up over a long sample: #news reached 13.9 posts
per author across 99 servers, so that axis would have drawn the most active genuine tag in this
index above the line.

The shape of the day
Posts per hour over the last 24 hours, each tag scaled to its own peak so a
quiet tag's rhythm is as visible as a busy one's. The figure at the right is that peak. Grouped
by polling tier, busiest first.
